Health Education Syllabus


Course Description
This Health course is designed to develop awareness of the need for good health and wellness through exploration of topics related to physical, mental, and social health. Students are encouraged to apply this knowledge to their lifestyle and make adjustments to ensure higher levels of wellness now and in the future.

Standards
1. Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health.
2. Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information and products and services to enhance health.
3. Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks.
4. Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health.
5. Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting skills to enhance health.
6. Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks.
7. Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.

Grading
45% Summative Grades (tests, projects, etc.)
35% Formative Grades (all daily assignments)
20% Final Exam

Rules/Expectations
No food or drink allowed in the classroom
Come to class prepared each day (pens, pencils, and notebooks)
Treat others with respect
ID's are worn during the school day at all times
Cell phones/electronic devices are NOT permitted during class periods
NO hats are permitted to be worn in the school building or gym

Make Up Policy
Students will have two days to make up work for every day missed. Special circumstances may warrant teacher or administrative discretion for allowing different arrganements.
